Science Saturday!
Happy Saturday! We had a GREAT time today in school!! Mrs. Conner told us that we are going to spend the majority of the day focusing on science concepts, since we have missed a lot from all the snow and ice! We started the day out at calendar and talked about how today is the FIRST day EVER that we have put a SATURDAY piece on the calendar to represent "TODAY IS"! Mrs. Conner let us do Phonicsize where we jumped and spelled our sight words, grooved to our digraph song and did our punctuation mark exercises! We then quickly moved into phonics time spelling test where Mrs. Conner had us spell words that had our digraphs, blends, word endings, and combinations in them! Mrs. Conner said we did AWESOME! :) After this, it was FINALLY time for SCIENCE SATURDAY! We started out reading to ourselves science books that we have been working with so far this year. We read all about what heat can do, sound, our bodies, insects and bugs, will it roll and what is in the sky!
After reading and reviewing all our science books, it was already time for lunch! We got to eat in the classroom and watch a Bill Nye the Science Guy video about the 3 states of matter! WE LOVE learning about mass, molecules, solids, liquids and gases. Our favorite part of the day was next! Mrs. Conner let us choose our science center and work in teams to journal and record all different science properties. We sorted by the properties ... big, small, heavy, light, rough, smooth, 2D, 3D, hard and soft! Mrs. Conner reminded us of our science rubric so that we could do the best we could! We assessed ourselves and made sure that each journal piece had pictures, labels, and sentences to receive three stickers! While we worked in groups, Mrs. Conner let us listen to our science songs that we have been singing ALL year long!
When science centers were done, we enjoyed singing a few science songs about properties and matter before we had to pack up and go home!
We LOVED Science Saturday!!! We can't wait to continue learning about more science concepts this year!
What a great way to spend a Saturday at school! Science Saturday looked like so much fun and I'm glad that you all were able to fill up your snow day with fun and learning. I look forward to seeing how many of you become scientists and do great things! Keep up the good work!
